Acceptance International sends a letter to the King of Saudi Arabia regarding the increase in sectarian violence in Islamic world

Acceptance International sent a letter to King Abdullah Bin 'Abdul 'Aziz Al-Saud - The Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King of Saudi Arabia regarding the increase in sectarian violence in Islamic world and the rule of some sheikhs and imams in inspiring that violence.

Acceptance International asked King Abdullah to intervene in order to put a stop to all extremist connotations, by taking some measures against claiming the necessity of harassing whoever differs in their belief, religion or sect. Shuhood also asked the King to work on putting an end to all announcements that encourage hatred and fanaticism, like calling for and cheering demolition of holy sites which are glorified by others, and similar pronouncements that only enhance violence and hatred. The same letter has been sent to a number of political and religious leader in the Arab and Islamic World. Witnesses asked those leaders to express their opinions and attitudes about these extreme suggestions, and to make it clear that those leaders do not agree with anything said in these public statements that excludes any different faith, degrade their believes or encourage assaulting them. We also asked those leaders to explain their encouragement to expose the sides in Islamic beliefs that emphasise the acceptance of other beliefs in an atmosphere of freedom of thinking and belief. Such steps, if made by these leaders, would demolish the ground bases that extremist verdicts stand on. The list of the leaders included; Ayatollah Khaminae the supreme leader of Islamic revelation in Iran, Ayatollah Ali Sistani the supreme Shia Imam, Dr. Muhammad Tantawi Sheikh of Al Azher and many others. Shuhood is continuing to send similar letters to other religious, political and cultural elites in the Islamic World in order that collective efforts would help in reducing the sectarian tension which has reached some unacceptable levels that results in evacuating, assaulting and even killing people only because they have a different faith or belief.
