A Call for Jurists and People of Justice
This is a call to Jurists and people of Justice throughout the world. A global legal forum needs to be established in order to set legal grounds to effectively bring those suspected of crimes against humanity to face justice in courts.
Witnesses Toward Tolerance; "The International Organization to Confront Extremism" is seeking an international investigation addressing the alleged violations by the Israeli forces in Gaza. These allegations are being added to decades of the misappropriations the Israeli forces have been committing against the Palestinians.
If these allegations are proved to be forthright then this clearly shows a lack of due diligence to uphold both international laws and humanity.
In 2002, both Israel and the United States, removed their names from The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court that was established 17-07-1998. This indicates that they are removing themselves from belonging to the states parties, relieving them from any responsibilities they may face internationally because their name no longer is affixed to international law. This makes it more difficult to hold their leaders responsible and bring them forward to the International Court of Justice in The Hague. To be able to bring them to justice would require a decision by the UN Security Council.
It would seem that with the removal of their signature, their support given to Israel and their permanent position held on the UN Security Council, the United States will unlikely allow calling the Israeli leaders to be forward to answer for any actions they have made, thus blocking any effective resolution.
Our concerns are threefold;
1) We stand against all violations of human rights.
2) We are appalled that in one hour, the Israeli actions undermined years of effort that institutions, organizations, councils and humanitarians spent establishing an understanding and a culture that respects human dignity, peace, civil harmony, tolerance, dialogue between different cultures and religions and so on.
3) It is our fear that the brutal actions the Israelis have taken in this matter will have long term effects, not just within Gaza but globally. There are extremists of many different opinions all over the world and it would be ignorant to take a blind eye to how this may play out with possible violent responses in other places and countries. That’s why the Israeli actions are serious threats to peace in the world.
The purpose of this call is for Jurists and people of Justice to come to action toward those responsible for their crimes against humanity. Whether or not their countries’ names appear on a document that dictates global law, supporting it or not should not exempt them from the responsibility, especially when the majority is unified to uphold set criteria.
